Every other year since 1999, the Home Improvement Research Institute has surveyed home improvement remodelers and specialty contractors to track critical product and channel activities. This report outlines the product purchases of professional contractors in over 11 product categories including Building Materials, Doors, Windows or Other Millwork, Electrical/Lighting Products, Floor, Wall and Ceiling Finish Products, Hand/Power Tools, Hardware, Kitchen/Bath Items (including appliances), Landscaping Supplies or Equipment, Paint, Stains, Finishes, Adhesives and Painting Accessories, Roofing, Siding or Insulation and Rough Plumbing and HVAC equipment.
The objectives of this study are to:
- Examine the purchasing behavior and preferences of contractors across various product categories.
- Identify key factors driving product selection and brand loyalty among contractors.
- Analyze the role of different purchasing channels in contractors’ buying behavior.
- Assess the impact of demographic and business characteristics on contractors’ purchasing decisions.
- Evaluate changes in contractor purchasing behavior over time and identify emerging trends.
